Philippines ready to issue digitized vaccine certificates

Philippines is set to release "digitized vaccine certificates" as more countries develop vaccine passes to facilitate safe travel during the COVID-19 pandemic according to Health Undersecretary Myrna Cabotaje.

The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) is in the process of developing the digital solution that would show the COVID-19 vaccination status of every Filipino.

“By the end of August or beginning of September, we hope we can already start automation. We will have the DICT issue the digitized vaccine certificate,” said Cabotaje, who also Chair of the National Vaccination Operations Center, in a report by ABS-CBN News.

Cabotaje mentioned that they plan to provide people with vaccination certificates so it will be easier for them when they travel abroad. This is also to make a standard vaccine certificate.

Proof of vaccination status will be a new entry requirement for some destinations and travel providers. Other countries may use vaccination status to allow travelers to skip swab tests and mandatory quarantine.
