PDP-Laban council nominates Go-Duterte for Eleksyon 2022

Senator Christopher “Bong” Go and President Rodrigo Duterte have been nominated by the ruling Partido Demokratiko Pilipino–Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) national council for president and vice president, respectively, in the 2022 elections.

Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi, who was just chosen by his group as president of the PDP-Laban, succeeding Senator Manny Pacquiao, verified this.

“PDP national council in our meeting yesterday agreed to present to the forthcoming national convention the tandem of Go Duterte tandem for 2022 election,” Cusi said.

Meanwhile, Acting Secretary-General Melvin Matibag stressed that other tandems may still be nominated, and that the Go-Duterte pairing is still up for debate.

“There was an endorsement but it will still be discussed during the National Assembly on Sept. 8… Open pa din. But Go-Duterte tandem is the Logical and Popular choice of the overwhelming members of PDP-Laban,” he said.

Go earlier stated that while he has no intention of running for president, he could reconsider if Duterte decides to run as his vice president. The national council of the PDP-Laban has also passed a resolution pushing Duterte to run for vice president in the forthcoming elections.

Senate Minority Leader Franklin Drilon and other officials, however, have warned that Duterte’s possible vice presidential bid “goes against the spirit” of the 1987 Constitution.
