DILG orders police into shooting of curfew violator

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has ordered police to investigate the shooting of a curfew violation in Tondo, Manila, who was reportedly mentally unstable.

Interviewed on DILG spokesperson Undersecretary Jonathan Malaya said the department will not tolerate such possible abuse.

"We are already investigating this. Secretary Eduardo Año already directed the PNP to determine the root cause of this incident" he said.

During the implementation of enhanced community quarantine in the National Capital Region, barangay peace and security officer Cesar Panlaqui shot a 59-year-old curfew violator in Tayuman on Saturday.

After sustaining a gunshot wound to the chest, the curfew violation, who was carrying toy firearms, died on the scene.

On Sunday morning, Panlaqui was apprehended. He allegedly confronted the victim for making a racket by pounding on the gates and doors of nearby homes.

The suspect was found with a revolver. The firearm is undocumented and does not have a serial number, according to the police.
